Trump will not place tariffs on Canada (for now…)

Greatful news from our neighbours in the south, Trump will not be placing tariffs on Canada! At least for now.
According to multiple U.S. reports, Trump has accepted not to place tariffs on countries like Canada and Mexico during his first few days in office. Trump, who was sworn in as president just after noon on Monday, has been reviewing three options: a 25 per cent tariff on Canadian goods, a 10 per cent tariff on goods from all countries or an escalating tariff that starts low and rises over time, according to Canadian officials. A Trump administration official confirmed to Reuters that Trump will hold off for now. This decision is likely to ease tensions between the two countries, fostering a more cooperative and stable trade relationship. By refraining from imposing tariffs, the U.S. acknowledges the importance of its economic ties with Canada, which could lead to further negotiations and agreements that benefit both nations. It also provides Canadian businesses with a sense of relief and predictability, allowing them to continue their operations without the immediate threat of increased costs.
