NDP leader Jagmeet Singh made some very aggressive statements towards Trump and the United States, amid the potential tariff crisis that Canada might face.
“(Trump) is a bully, and bullies understand one thing: that is strength… They also understand pain. So, if he wants to pick a fight with Canada, we have to make sure it’s clear that it’s going to hurt Americans as well,” said Singh. Jagmeet Singh called for Canada to stop any critical minerals exports to the U.S. “I’m just proposing we start with critical minerals, but we need to look at every option, every response to the tariffs” he said. These statements and potential actions could strain the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, leading to increased tensions and economic repercussions. Retaliatory measures from Canada might prompt the U.S. to escalate the situation further, impacting trade and cooperation on other international issues. Both nations may need to engage in high-level negotiations to resolve the conflict and maintain their longstanding partnership.
