3 in 4 Canadians have voiced their support for military spending, specifically for new submarines. According to a survey from Nanos Research, Canadians support the recent announcement of potentially acquiring 12 new submarines. 44% supported the idea, while 32% said they were only somewhat supportive of the purchase.
This planned purchase came after the NATO summit in July, in which Canada still does not reach the minimum GDP spending for NATO allies. Bill Blair, Canada’s Defence Minister said in a news release that these new submarines “will enable Canada to protect its sovereignty in a changing world, and make valuable, high-end contributions to the security of our partners and NATO allies.”
