According to Eurostat data, Greece’s poverty rate reached 26.1%, the fourth highest in the EU.
Peloponnese and Western Greece are among the highest regions in Greece for poverty. Other countries above Greece are Romania (32%), Bulgaria (30%), and Spain (26.5%). On the national level, Greece’s poverty is 26.1%. While in the Greek regions: Peloponnese (35.7%), Western Greece (35.2%), Western Macedonia (32.7%), Eastern Macedonia and Thrace (31.9%) and Northern Aegean (30.4%). Attica, where the Greek capital is, still manages to have a high rate of 22.7%. While Greeks starve on the streets, Mitsotakis and other top politicians are living in mansions, living their lives.
