A petition was created by the HALC (Hellenic American Leadership Council) towards US congress members and the chairman and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, as well as the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This petition is to prevent anymore American weapons from going to Turkey, which will be used to assault Greece, Cyprus, and other neighbours.
Talks from the Biden administration spoke about letting Turkey back into the F-35 program, and this petition aims at stopping situations just like this. This is the same Turkey that politically weaponized migrants, and sent millions flowing into the Greek border and through the rest of Europe. The same Turkey that acquired Russian S-400 missiles, against US wishes and as a NATO ally. The same Turkey that uses its navy and airforce to harass NATO ally Greece on a daily basis. And now the USA wants to give Turkey more weapons?
“Turkey has a lot to prove to the American people before it is given the privileged position of being readmitted to the F-35 program. It has demonstrated a willingness to use American made weapons with impunity against American allies and partners and contrary to American interests,” writes the petition’s letter.
The HALC has created a website for this petition for others to sign and show agreement with the issue at hand. Adding information from their site that “After getting kicked out of the F-35 program and resorting to blackmail to acquire F-16s, Turkey is now reportedly looking for US officials to ignore its violation of US law and interests by allowing it back into the F35 program and approving its request to buy engines it can use in its domestically-produced military jets.”
