“The Athens Riviera constitutes the largest urban regeneration project in Europe.”
Says reports from the theellinikon.com.gr. An ambitious plan to transform the former Athens international airport is underway in Athens. 115 apartments, 27 ultra-luxury beachfront villas, a 23,000 square meter commercial hub, and a 2-million-square-meter metropolitan park. Some buildings have already been completed in the area. The first building completed in the project is a care center for disabled people. Another grand sight is Greece’s first “Green” tower, which will reach heights of 200 meters, and house over 200 residents. “A new world-class destination. A new ‘smart’ and ‘green’ city on the Athens Riviera”. There is much anticipation about what this will become, while some critics say it will lead to Athens’ downfall. People believe that this new part of the city will offer little to no difference to everyday Greeks, and will only benefit the wealthy. The CEO of LAMDA Development, Odisseas Athanasiou says, “The Ellinikon will reposition the country on the international investment map and will lead to an increased tourism footprint and a significantly healthier economy.”.
