Yesterday Justin Trudeau announced that the trade war between Canada and the USA had begun.
“Today, the United States launched a trade war against Canada: their closest partner and ally — their closest friend. Canadians are reasonable, but we will not back down from a fight. Not when our country is at stake.” Said Trudeau on X. During his last few days in office, Trudeau set out to destroy Canada as much as possible, stating that Canada has plastered retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods worth over $100 billion. Trump has placed a 25% tax on all Canadian goods, while only placing a 10% tax on Canadian energy. While Trudeau has already placed retaliatory tariffs, economists suggest that retaliation will destroy Canada’s economy way more than just U.S. tariffs alone. “We are going to choose to try and buy Canadian products … and yeah we’re probably going to keep booing the American anthem,” said Trudeau. While Trudeau proceeds to call Trump’s tariffs ‘dumb’, what is more dumb, is watching Canadian businesses take down American products that have ALREADY entered Canada. Rather than just not restocking American products and selling your current inventory, stores like the LCBO are seen pulling American alcohol off the shelves. Trudeau’s decision to impose retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods may lead to significant economic consequences for Canada. These measures could result in increased prices for Canadian consumers and disrupt supply chains, affecting businesses that rely on American imports. Additionally, the trade tensions might discourage foreign investment and harm the broader Canadian economy in the long term, as companies may seek more stable markets to conduct their business. Meanwhile in Ontario, Doug Ford is calling to shut off power to the U.S. “If they want to try to annihilate Ontario, I will do anything, including cutting off their energy — with a smile on my face,” Ford said.
