While the Mitsotakis government and other Greek politicians, run scared and stay quiet, it is a shock that a British politician is saying what Greeks are thinking.
Paul Golding, a British politician part of the ‘Britain First’ Nationalist Party made a statement on X, with a photo (shown above) and a caption saying “soon”. This is not the first time Golding has made a factual statement like this. Golding previously made another tweet, stating that “Turkey is now the number one enemy of Europe” which has been met with negative comments by Turkish users online. Golding is facing both criticism and support for his tweets, which spark a sense of history, as we remember that it was the UK who joined Greece in cutting up the Ottoman empire and creating the Treaty of Sèvres in 1920. Many Greeks have expressed appreciation for Golding’s boldness in voicing their concerns, with some viewing his statements as a validation of their own sentiments. However, there are also those who caution against aligning with Golding due to his controversial political background. Overall, his comments have ignited a spirited debate within Greece about national identity and international relations.
