A shocking testimony given by Greek film director Yannis Smaragdis, on the set of the show “Antitheses” live on Kriti TV.
Smaragdis said that the Mitsotakis government, dealing with the then minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis, refused to give funding to the film production about Ioannis Kapodistrias, Greece’s first Prime Minister. Kapodistrias was one of the most famous Greek leaders in politics. He was an autocratic ruler who devoted all his personal wealth and most of his salary to the struggle for Greece. Kapodistrias used to be the foreign affairs minister in Russia (during Ottoman rule over Greece), and helped convince the Russians to join the Greeks and attack the Ottomans. Kapodistrias is a Greek hero, and Georgiadis refused to fund the film project, because Kapodistrias was pro-Russian and an autocrat. This is the current situation of Greece under the traitors in parliament.
“In what country would they have someone like Kapodistrias and put obstacles in the way of making a film?” said Smaragdis. Kapodistrias is a hero, but because he was a beloved autocrat, it will make nationalism look good. And because he was pro-Russian, it would offend the Ukrainians. Georgiadis along with Mitsotakis don’t care about Greek history and Greece, but they only care about what the west has to say. Kapodistrias has long been a symbol of national pride and resilience for the Greek people. His efforts in securing independence and his vision for a unified Greece have cemented his legacy as a pivotal figure in shaping modern Greek identity. Despite his autocratic tendencies, many Greeks view him as a leader who prioritized the nation’s welfare above personal gain, and his contributions continue to inspire discussions on sovereignty and patriotism. Shame on Adonis Georgiadis for refusing to give funding for this film! His legacy should be celebrated and honoured, not denied. Georgiadis’s decision to withhold funds is a slap in the face to all Greeks and should be reversed.
