Turkish president Erdogan does not believe that any island should have its own EEZ. Despite Cyprus being its own country (and not an island within a country), and also despite the fact that no one cares what a cry baby Turkish dictator has to say about rules and international law, Turkey wishes to push for its idiodic self-proclaimed ideals.
We now find ourselves looking towards Syria, which as we all know, was recently taken over by Turkish-backed terrorists. Turkey wishes to make a deal with its Syrian terrorists, and create a new EEZ, that excludes Cyprus, and strips the Cypriot people of any sovereignty. “Obviously, both I and President Christodoulides informed our counterparts about these discussions that are coming to light, that some kind of EEZ could be defined between Türkiye and Syria, which would disregard the undeniable sovereign rights of Cyprus. So there has been an update on something that at this level so far has been moving in the circle of journalistic information,” said Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis. Turkey wishes to use its terrorists in Syria, to essentially, obsorb the Cypriot EEZ and have Cyprus be terrorized by the Turkish navy.
The historical tension between Cyprus and Turkey dates back to the 1974 Turkish invasion of Cyprus, which led to the division of the island into the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the illegal Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recognized only by Turkey, in the north. This division has fuelled ongoing disputes over territorial rights and sovereignty, particularly in relation to maritime boundaries and natural resource exploration in the Eastern Mediterranean. The conflict has persisted for decades, complicating diplomatic relations and regional stability. Ultimately, this dispute has the potential to destabilize the entire region if not resolved.
