A number of reports have surfaced over the last few weeks regarding the connections between the liberal party and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Liberal MPs are reported to have been bribed, and Chinese interference with our elections has been reported. Among the reports are; CSIS reports that Liberal MP receives interference assistance from China (Toronto Sun), Chinese communist regime accused of funding candidates (CNN), Chinese agencies interfered in the 2021 federal election (Sunday Guardian), and Canadian intelligence officers warned Trudeau that China has targeted Canada (Global News). Trudeau has finally announced an investigation into possible interference with the 2019 and 2021 elections. This comes after he has been criticized for not taking the issue seriously enough. “This is not, and should never be, a partisan issue. I understand that people want answers, and Canadians deserve reassurance.” Said Trudeau to a news reporter in Ottawa. As part of the investigation, investigators hired by Trudeau were given all clearances and all access to secret government documents, as well as being sworn to secrecy. People are still concerned about this, why is the investigator being brought in by Trudeau and now being bound by secrecy when viewing his government documents? There are those who see this as a waste of time, while others may disagree. Conservative campaign manager for the 2021 election, Fred DeLorey, says that “the outcome of the 2021 vote was not influenced by any external meddling.” Trudeau is essentially taking control of the investigation about him, the people are not getting answers, and the Chinese embassy in Canada argues that the accusations are ‘pure slander and total nonsense’. The anger and frustration have led Canadians to lose trust in their government. According to Global News, a majority believe China interfered in our elections, and 64% want more focus on national security.
