Chow proposes 2.2% tax hike on all property owners

Never has it been seen where a Toronto mayor praises just how low they will INCREASE your taxes. Low or high, a tax is still a tax!
Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow is proposing a 2.2 per cent property tax increase in the city’s 2026 budget, according to a statement from the mayor’s office. Media outlets are chanting this tax hike as the “smallest of Chow’s time in office” as if any sort of tax hike is something to be excited about. In her speech introducing the tax hike, Chow stated that “The 2026 budget is about making life more affordable for Toronto families”. Many residents have expressed skepticism, questioning how a tax increase could lead to greater affordability. Most living in Toronto are concerned about the additional financial burden that will be placed on already stretched household budgets.

As the 2026 mayoral election race comes closer each day, it is doubtful that Torontonians will think smart and elect a new mayor with a real strategy to fix our city. After all, these are the same Torontonians who voted for Chow to begin with.
