Polls suggest that if Mark Carney wins the Liberal leadership race, he would close the gap between the lead the CPC has in the coming election this year.
A Leger survey stated that Carney would prop up the Liberals to 37%, while the CPC would still hover around 40% of voter support.
“He’s the new flavour on the menu and he definitely seems to be capturing not just Canadians’ attentions but also Liberal attention,” said Leger pollster Andrew Enns. As of now, the CPC is still set to form a majority government, but with such drastic upswings for the Liberals in such a short time, only time will tell. Mark Carney’s popularity could significantly reshape the political landscape in Canada. His ability to attract attention and support may energize the Liberal base and sway undecided voters, potentially narrowing the gap in voter support. This increased interest in his leadership could lead to a more competitive election, challenging the CPC’s current stronghold.
