Taking a trip back in memory lane, the housing crisis has been a thing for a while. And not so shockingly, articles from previous years make comebacks as we expose those who profit from our suffering. According to sources such as ‘The Maple’ back in 2022, nearly 40% of MPs profited from the housing crisis. So why would they solve it?
While Canadian home owners suffer, those who own property have been watching the value of their investments surge. Landlords are jacking up rents, and housing finances are rising. And some of these landlords serve as your members of parliament!
“Nearly 40 per cent of MPs are landlords and/or have invested in real estate in some way. This research was based on an analysis of public disclosures MPs were required to complete after the most recent election, which contain their sources of income, properties owned and investments,” said Davide Mastracci of The Maple. The study found that 50% of Green Party MPs fit into this category, 46% of CPC MPs, 39% of Liberals, 16% of NDP MPs, and 19% of BLOC Québécois MPs. Among these MPs, including the leaders of these political parties, such as Trudeau, Singh and Poilievre.
“24 of the MPs on the list represent ridings in the Toronto Metro area, where, according to rentals.ca, the average rent for a one-bedroom unit hit $2,329 per month in August, and according to Zolo, the average cost of a house is now nearly $1.1 million.”
Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland, is another Member, who in this case, owns property in foreign countries such as Ukraine. Not surprisingly, Freeland is a very big supporter in continuing the support of Ukraine, and funding Canadian taxpayers’ money to Ukraine.
