Refugees in Canada make more money than the average Canadian salary

A post on Twitter is going viral, after a government document (from a few months ago) exposes that refugees collect more in government aid than the average Canadian makes annually.
“People claiming to be refugees in Canada get $224.00 per day from our government to eat and stay in a hotel room. That works out to be $81,760 per year. $20,000 more than the average Canadian salary. Absolutely unbelievable.” said Ryan Gerritsen on X (Twitter). This finding was also previously exposed back in May 2024, by CPC MP Lianne Rood, claiming that “The NDP-Liberal government is giving TEN TIMES the benefits to illegal border jumpers than it is giving to help Canadian seniors! DISGRACEFUL!”.
The government of Canada posted on their website, on the topic of “What kind of support do government-assisted refugees get?”. The government of Canada offers a wide range of support, such as:
– temporary housing / Help finding permanent housing
– public transportation
– personal finance help
– a one-time household start-up allowance
– a monthly income support payment
