Trudeau lost yet another election, this time in Montreal to the Bloc Quebecois.
With 100% of the votes counted by Elections Canada, the separatist Bloc Québécois candidate, Louis-Philippe Sauvé, won with 28% of the votes. The Liberals lost their once-safe seat while gaining only 27% of the votes, the NDP in 3rd with 26%, and the CPC at 11.6%. Even after the failure, Trudeau still insists that his power is safe, and an election will come as scheduled near the end of October 2025.
Trudeau made a statement in Ottawa saying, “Obviously, it would have been nice to be able to win and hold Verdun, but there’s more work to do, and we’re going to stay focused on doing it.” It is also worth noting that even though the Liberals may have lost a seat in government, the Bloc still seems to be leaning towards the side of Trudeau and helping him out. Saying in a statement, Bloc leader Blanchet said that he would only want an early election if he views that Trudeau does not seem to be supportive of Quebec.
