The official opposition in British Columbia ‘BC United’ has called off its election campaign as they do not see fit to win the election, and fear splitting the right-wing vote. Additionally, the party urges people to support the provincial conservative party’s efforts to stop the NDP from winning. “There is nothing more important to me, my children, and your children and grandchildren, that we not give the NDP one more day in power than they absolutely have to have,” said party leader Kevin Falcon.
The BC United Party is British Columbia’s centre-right party founded in 1903 as the BC Liberal Party. The party currently holds 23 out of the 87 seats in the provincial parliament, thus being dubbed the official opposition to the ruling NDP party. BC United candidates are now either just completely dropping out of the race or are now being invited to join the Conservative party and campaign under one party.
