In a train accident on Tuesday night, a Greek passenger train carrying hundreds of passengers collided with a freight train, killing around 36 people. It happened near Tempi, Thessaly, where Larissa station is located on the way from Athens to Thessaloniki. Due to the high speed impact, some passengers were thrown through windows, while others still trapped in the train struggled to escape the rubble after the crash. The police are investigating the situation and have arrested the stationmaster in Larissa. A visit by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis to the crash scene saw him walking past derailed cars and rubble. On Wednesday, the Prime Minister said, “Our thoughts are with the relatives of those who died.”. He promised to find the cause and ensure it will never happen again.
